different mountains, different encounters

published by The Future Publishing, Amsterdam, 2024

different mountains, different encounters is a space for fermenting thoughts to find expression.
It is a space created to let ruminations and thoughts breathe: processes that precede artistic creation, processes that help artworks come into being without necessarily becoming embedded in the final works themselves.
These processes are compared to fermentation, as we live a life of perceptions and observations, which in turn reflect both ways—to the inner and outer worlds.

The writings are spread across nine segments referencing the nine branches of the axis mundi symbol of the World Tree, wherein they connect the manifold experiences and time-places relevant to the creation of this book.

All images show plants carefully and respectfully gathered and dried from around my Mongolian travels as well as various mineral stones from the Gobi desert. In the book they are depicted 1:1 in size.

There are many souls that made the creation of this book a synergetic process: Never-ending gratitude goes to Jana Francke for always picking my brain—an ongoing collaboration, and for her deep understanding regardless of my multilingual chaos.

I sincerely thank Björn Reichhardt for taking the photographs of my most precious gatherings that now adorn the pages of this book—on a cold morning at the shores of Dalai Eej, Lake Khuvsgul on our travels together.

Joshua Hoogeboom-Noya has my sincerest appreciation for tying knots for me, and along with Studio The Future, Vincent Schipper and Klara van Duijkeren, enabling the realization and existence of this book with great patience and care.

And my deepest gratitude goes to Bogd Khan Mountain, who gives me immeasurable gifts during my time in Mongolia, always.
